Kids’ clothing sizes: a size chart by height and age

Size is the most common problem when buying children’s clothes online. The good news: European and Ukrainian kids’ sizes are based on your child’s height in centimetres, so choosing correctly is easy once you know a few rules.

Why you shouldn’t choose by age

Children of the same age can differ in height by 10–15 cm. Age in size charts is only a guide — height is what counts, plus chest and waist for dresses and skirts.

Kids’ size chart

• 92 — 1.5–2 years, chest 52 cm, waist 50 cm, hips 54 cm
• 98 — 2–3 years, chest 54 cm, waist 51 cm, hips 56 cm
• 104 — 3–4 years, chest 56 cm, waist 52 cm, hips 58 cm
• 110 — 4–5 years, chest 58 cm, waist 53 cm, hips 60 cm
• 116 — 5–6 years, chest 60 cm, waist 54 cm, hips 63 cm
• 122 — 6–7 years, chest 62 cm, waist 55 cm, hips 66 cm
• 128 — 7–8 years, chest 64 cm, waist 56 cm, hips 69 cm
• 134 — 8–9 years, chest 66 cm, waist 57 cm, hips 72 cm
• 140 — 9–10 years, chest 68 cm, waist 58 cm, hips 75 cm

UK parents: size 116 roughly equals “5–6 years”, 128 equals “7–8 years”. The up-to-date chart is always on our size chart page.

How to measure your child

1. Height — barefoot, standing straight against a wall, from the top of the head to the heels.
2. Chest — tape horizontal around the fullest part of the chest.
3. Waist — around the narrowest point, without pulling the tape tight.
4. Hips — around the fullest part of the hips.

Between sizes?

Go one size up. Children grow fast, and loose-fit dresses such as circle or A-line styles look just as lovely with a little room. The exception is fitted pieces like shorts — use waist and hip measurements.

Model notes

• Circle dresses (like “Melania” or “Nicole”) have room in the chest and waist.
• Bomber jackets are cut loose — choose by height.
• Elastic-waist skirts fit a range of waist sizes.
