Tweed dress for girls: how to style it and care for it

Why tweed is the perfect fabric for party and school outfits, how to style it and how to care for it properly.

Tweed dress for girls: how to style it and care for it

Tweed is associated with British classics and Chanel-style elegance — and it works just as well in a child’s wardrobe. A tweed dress for girls looks festive, holds its shape and lasts for years.

What is tweed?

Tweed is a dense fabric with a characteristic flecked weave, traditionally made of wool. Modern tweed often includes some polyester, making it softer, less prone to creasing and easier to care for. Its density keeps the silhouette crisp — a full circle skirt won’t go limp even after hours of celebrating.

When to wear it

  • school events and the first day of school;
  • birthdays and Christmas parties;
  • autumn and winter family photo shoots;
  • theatre, concerts and visiting family.

How to style it

Blouse. Pinafores and sleeveless tweed dresses look best with a white round-collar blouse — the classic “school” look.

Tights. Opaque tights matching the dress (navy, burgundy, black) lengthen the silhouette.

Outer layer. On cooler days add the “Andriana” tweed bomber, which makes a set with the matching skirt and shorts.

Shoes. Patent shoes, loafers or Mary Janes.

How to care for tweed

  1. Wash less often. Air the dress and brush it with a soft brush.
  2. Hand wash at 30°C or use a delicate cycle without spinning. Dry cleaning is safest.
  3. Don’t wring. Dry flat.
  4. Iron through a damp cloth, inside out, without pressing hard.
  5. Store on a hanger in a garment bag to avoid snags.

Why tweed is a smart investment

A quality tweed dress keeps its look for several seasons and is often handed down to a younger sister. Circle-skirt styles like “Melania” and “Nicole” have extra room, so they fit for longer.
