Family photo shoot: how to choose your daughter’s outfit
Colours, fabrics and cuts that look great on camera, coordinating with parents and mistakes to avoid.

Family photos stay with you for years, so the outfits deserve a little planning. Here’s what to wear for a family photoshoot so the pictures look harmonious and your daughter is happy.
Colour: coordinated, not identical
There’s no need to dress everyone the same. Choose a shared palette of 3–4 colours and spread them across the family.
- Bright studio: ivory, beige, navy, burgundy.
- Summer outdoors: white, blush, olive, sky blue.
- Autumn park: navy, mustard, terracotta, cream.
Fabrics the camera loves
- Textured fabrics — tweed, broderie anglaise, lace — add depth.
- Matte beats shiny — satin creates glare.
- Natural fabrics crease less untidily and don’t build static.
Cuts for natural, lively shots
The best photos happen in motion — twirling, running, jumping:
- circle dresses that fly out — “Melania”, “Nicole”;
- details near the face — collars, ruffles, bows;
- knee length — nothing to trip over.
Studio vs outdoors
Studio: a lace-collar tweed dress, opaque tights and patent shoes.
Meadow or garden: a white broderie anglaise dress, a straw hat, sandals or bare feet.
City: bomber + shorts + white blouse.
What to avoid
Big logos, neon colours, brand-new shoes that pinch — and an outfit your child dislikes; it always shows.
Try outfits on a few days before, steam the dress the night before and bring a spare. Need matching sister or mother-and-daughter dresses? We make them to order.
