School outfits for girls: stylish looks beyond a boring uniform
Essentials, smart combinations and fabrics that survive the school day: how to build a stylish school wardrobe for your daughter.

Many schools don’t have a strict uniform but do have a dress code: muted colours, a neat look, comfort. Here’s how to build school outfits for girls that are comfortable for her and easy for you.
Fewer, better pieces
Instead of a pile of random clothes, choose 6–8 quality pieces that all work together — ideally in one palette: navy, grey, burgundy, white.
The primary school essentials
- 2–3 white blouses in soft cotton. A round collar, like our Peter Pan blouse, looks smart and doesn’t rub.
- A skirt with an elastic waist — easy to put on by herself. The tweed “Andriana” skirt holds its shape all day.
- A pinafore dress — one piece, a whole outfit, like our houndstooth pinafore.
- Shorts or trousers for PE or school trips. Tweed “Andriana” shorts with tights are stylish and warm.
- A bomber or blazer for chilly mornings.
- A party dress for school concerts and photos.
Ready-made looks
- Classic: white blouse + tweed skirt + opaque tights + loafers.
- Comfortable: blouse + shorts + tights + bomber.
- Festive: pinafore + blouse + patent shoes.
- First day of school: a lace-collar tweed dress — “Zlata” or “Melania”.
Which fabrics to choose
Cotton for blouses — it absorbs moisture and doesn’t build static. Tweed for skirts, pinafores and outer layers — dense, crease-resistant and doesn’t need washing every day. Avoid 100% synthetics.
Practical tips
- Make sure she can do up buttons and zips by herself.
- Buy with a little room to grow.
- Label clothes — fewer lost jackets in the cloakroom.
